Musing: A Portrait By Animesh Roy

Born in 1968, Animesh Royhas a Bachelor of Fine Arts [BFA] degree from Delhi College of Art, India (1986-90). He is a painter based in both India and Europe. Till date he has held over fifteen solo shows and numerous group shows in India and abroad. He has been invited to participate in various international art shows from countries like China, Belarus, Poland, Krygz Republic, Iran, Kenya, USA etc. And regularly participates in various 'plein air' art camps in Europe. The artist's impressionistic style is characterised by visible, expressive brush-strokes, and a painterly impasto. Roy prefers to paint in oils in small and large sizes alike and in varied genres viz. Abstract, Figurative, Floral, Landscape, Still Life etc. He paints mostly in Oil on Linen. He has a thick impasto technique using knife and spatula. "Animesh Roy paints with a breezy brush, loaded with thick paint catching the ephemeral poetry of colour and light through changing seasons in the woodlands." an Art critic once described Roy's work Bright, yet soft colours, visible textures and bold highlights are the characteristics of Roy's works. His artworks are painted mostly in oils on canvas/ linen and drawn with strong strokes and vibrant colours that make the pictures seem almost to glow. His use of semi-realism gives one the feeling of looking through a window into a world that is as strange as it is familiar, and beautiful in both aspects. The artist's impressionistic style is characterised by visible, expressive brush-strokes, and a painterly impasto. In his Art so in his life, Roy has merged the Orient and the Occident to a beautiful unison!! Animesh Roy lives and works in both India and Europe.
